Rotsucker's lair

Deep within a withered and rotting forest a rotsucker glides between the trees. A jet black cocoon of sorts is clutched in its sharp talons, the muffled sounds of a dying creature screeching from within.

The rotsucker approaches a large bulbous dome that stretches between the limbs of the dying trees and to the forest floor below. It is made up of the same jet black material, dripping like globs of sap frozen in time. As the rotsucker swoops to perch upon a branch within its nesting grounds, the cocoon-like coffin is released and squelches into soft earth. Droplets of mud and bile sizzle as they splatter across a tree's scarred roots nearby. The now silent tomb joins dozens of others scattered amongst the decrepit trees. A snack for later here within the rotsucker's lair.

Rotsucker's Lair

If utilizing the Rotsucker's Lair, the rotsucker's challenge rating is adjusted.

Challenge 6 (2,300 XP)

A rotsucker's lair is formed from the same acidic bile that the rotsucker uses to entomb its prey. The bile is excreted amongst a suitable environment, be that the trees of an ancient forest or monstrous mushrooms in the bowels of the Underdark, where it hardens quickly creating a dripping tar black canopy.

A rotsucker's domain is littered with countless shells of their prior prey. Most of them drained of their melted occupants, these bulbous graves resemble boulders scattered about the floor. More of these tombs can be found hanging within the bows of the rotsucker's nest, some of them drip, drip, dripping the remains of a liquified creature. Over time, the ground takes on the soft qualities of a swamp as it becomes saturated with acidic excess.

Many rotsucker's nesting grounds are home to their smaller kin, the dwarf rotsucker. These boney, sunken creatures generally prefer stealth, but will lash out if provoked.

LAIR ACTIONS

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the rotsucker takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the rotsucker can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

To me! (1/Day). The rotsucker calls upon its lesser counterparts. 3 dwarf rotsuckers join the fight. Roll initiative for the dwarf rotsuckers as a group.

Food Fight! One of the rotsucker’s food sacks detaches from the canopy above. One creature below it must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take (2d6) acid damage as the sack ruptures.

Squishy, Squishy. The ground seeps acidic excess. Each creature takes 1 acid damage for every 5 ft of movement this round.

Observe the Rotsucker for the gruesome creature that calls this lair home.

AND the Dwarf Rotsucker for the perfect minion or minor monster.
